For decades Denmark has been the world leader in the accumulation of know-how and the development and implementation of innovative technologies related to district heating. Today, almost 60% of the Danish population enjoys the benefit of being connected to clean and efficient district heating systems. The use of heat is effectively monitored and controlled providing consumers a maximum comfort level while ensuring the lowest possible energy consumption.
Waste incineration, combined heat and power production and surplus heat from the industry are used simultaneously to supply large scale district heating networks. Interconnecting these heat sources provides the possibility to shift between various fuels such as coal, oil and natural gas, and to utilise indigenous resources such as waste and biofuels. This flexible system configuration maximises security of supply, increases efficiency and reduces fuel costs. In this way, Danish experience demonstrates that district heating can be economically advantageous, environmentally safe and extremely dependable.
DBDH implements conferences, seminars and exhibitions with the purpose of making this consolidated experience available worldwide. Further, DBDH develops and maintains cooperative agreements with district heating organisations abroad for the purpose of exchanging information related to all aspects of district heating.
Through our technical journal, Hot/Cool, which is published quarterly, we reach more than 9,500 readers in over 50 countries. The journal presents state of the art district heating technology in all its aspects through articles written by experienced professionals. In this way, Hot|Cool informs and updates its readers on the latest ideas and developments within the sector.
